Power of the Purse
Power of the Purse is Black River United Way’s Signature Women’s Luncheon Fundraiser supporting Youth Opportunity in Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties. Featuring Special Keynote Speaker Dr. Katrina Hutchins, a Silent Purse Auction, and a Women in Business Panel, Power of the Purse is a day for women changemakers to unite and show what can be accomplished when we work together.
"Women, whether subtly or vociferously, have always been a tremendous power in the destiny of the world."— Eleanor Roosevelt
Did you know that less than half of our students are currently reading at grade-level? Or that 88% of students who failed to earn a high school diploma were struggling readers in third grade? Developing early literacy skills is crucial for future success!
Black River United Way has the bold goal to advance youth opportunity and help get 90% of third-grade students served by BRUW programming and strategies are on or above grade-level by 2031. But we can't do it alone!
Join us for our 3rd Annual Power of the Purse! event on Thursday, March 20th for a Women's Luncheon to improve the literacy rates in our community.
Featuring Special Keynote Speaker Dr. Katrina Hutchins, a Silent Purse Auction, and a Women in Business Panel, Power of the Purse is a day for women changemakers to unite and show what can be accomplished when we work together.
Funds raised will support Black River United Way’s Waccamaw Region For Childhood Success Initiative, advancing youth opportunity through kindergarten readiness (Mission: Ready) and third grade reading success (Mission: Read).
